Lead

I’m common
no hiding
you can find me anytime you look
and a flash of my heavy blue fire
will show you what I can do

I’m easy to extract
no coyness
all you have to do is reach out
into an earthy ancient vocation
and pull me to you

I’m easy to work with
no naivete
simply tell me what you want
and I’ll shine like silver in your caresses

Through your tensions I’ll cut like a scythe
shielding you from nature’s corrosion
I’ll keep you balanced and weighted
insulating you from life’s storms

You can use me to build you up on the outside
but if you don’t protect yourself
I’ll tear you down from the inside

I can ignite with a breath
seep into your soft tissues
dig deep into your bones
and settle down in your brain

I am a world of shades of gray

Embrace me with care

Word Tubal Ligation

Word Tubal Ligation

They’re trying to pour out of me
bleed out of me
desperate to be seen

I want them to come
yearn for their flow
their intensity
literary orgasm at the last period

Yet they stay in the shadows
as little things get in the way
not the right paper
not the right pen
not the write egg
not the write swimmer

Bad timing
urges at inappropriate moments
distractions that I allow
in my quest for perfection

I’ve let myself go
forgotten how to entice the tides
stir those desires
to get those white horses moving
stampeding across my lines plains

I’ve set behind me too much time
I need to touch again
caress the skins of my words
massage the blood to the surface
stroking the meaning out
no matter how hard

I untie the knots I’ve put in
straighten the tunnels
break down the burnt walls

The pages be my eggs
the ink be my swimmers
life is mine to create

Shalott's Brother

Shalott’s Brother

Looking at the world on this stage of glass
the only mirror I can bear
I am so tired of Shades
yet so desperate to avoid my poetic sister’s fate

Banished by a mother to an underworld
because of a nature I could not see
born a man
I became a Hades
This is my home
This is my tomb

Some hear a Highwayman of the boards
with the hounds of hell close at heel

Hear, willing Persephone, the thief of your voice
the purveyor of your heart
with the dogs of love
on the right side of danger

Music is the coin of this realm
so take this Charon’s hand
cross this Parisian Styx
this river of your belief
and I will speak the mysteries
of a Seraph living yet undead

Let us exchange this experience

A mash-up of "The Phantom Of The Opera", "The Lady Of Shalott", "Beauty & The Beast" with a bit of "The Highwayman" & some Greek mythology just because.

Gold (2)

Gold

In myth gods excrete me while on utopian seats
into the rising sun’s smile with the touch you name kings after.

You beat me thin,
mix me with others to raise my strength or change my color.
You inject me into your veins,
grains flowing through your heart,
becoming a nugget in the back of your brain
and a rope to kidnap your desire.

Mine is the standard to which you must pay,
the rule you never break,
the age you spend your years striving to attain.

Fools confuse me with real value,
try to create me from others
and fleece themselves of true wealth.

Conduct yourself well with me
and I will help you weave your way to the stars.

Wrong me
and I will smother you in dense softness.

I am symbol.
I am adornment.
I am debt.
I am freedom.
