The Memory Burn
With every breathe
you enter deeper into my mind
with every laugh
my soul moves closer to you
every brush of your skin
fevers my flesh
If you were to reach for me now
I would scald us both before contact was complete
How to live in the heat bearing down on me
everything is a river in my sight
my insides crisp
and I swear my skin tans
although I do not step outside
I fear burning the sun
I am a flame ignited by a match from a book
belonging to her of the “Christine” hair
and no name
I must douse these embers
My fire has no place to grow
and no right to engulf you
A burning memory is all that we may be
