Covering Xavier With Chocolate
Unwrapping the confection
removing life from the womb
Shelled meats peek thru the surface
heart beats across a monitor
Dark, hard, yet easily melted
newborn skin with not enough oxygen
Fingerprints remain
touches of caring leaving bruises in fluid illness
Sweet richness flowing on the palate
blood filling up the brain
Swallowing the chocolate to feel no pain
turning off breath to feel no pain
