Brought up in in the middle
joy in mimicry and numbers
till a pain in his side
cut open his life
and a landlady’s stories
reset his future
and cost him a love
He went on boards to bright lights
losing and gaining legal leading ladies
He played doubles with Oscar and Tony
a quartet on his mantel
Moving from lover to lead
main man to mooring
illness couldn’t hold him
from being what he was
Only Death could stop him
an old friend
with whom he had Holidayed before
