Ministry of an old death cult 
letters to the editor 
a jailbird sang their story 
and a narcissist bought the fairy tale 

Upending their life 
abandoning their mate 
lying to their children 
they flew to the other’s cage 

Down past the southern border 
a romance with guards 
a marriage behind bars 

Then with freedom 
came fists 
drunken reality 
and a mad run 
with an infant 

and they did not live happily ever after
