Fire Goddess

Fire Goddess

Licking
at the air
Shooting
sparks at the stars
Dancing
flames that sway the spirit
Fire
burns the mind and smolders the soul

Rising up from the earth
Born of ancient forests
No friendly fairy
no elegant elf
nor simple sprite or knowledgeable gnome
comes from igniting the quest

Red Salamander familiar
A piece of the sun at midnight
She is not to be called on whim
for Her wisdom's key is vigilance

If one wishes to burn
one must learn to dance
on fire

My Imaginary Love

My Imaginary Love

A couple of photographs
a few words
and my imagination fills in the rest
building upon a foundation of between the lines and body language
I create not perfection
but perfect for me

How to kill the illusion with illumination
How to smother the hot fantasy with the cold grip of reality

Letting go of the mirage from dry desperation parched with lack of passion
It is too easy to drink the dream of lust and not work at a life of love

So I turn my mind from the image
and set my eyes on awake
yet
leaving my imaginary love
breaks my imaginary heart

5 Penny Burial

5 Penny Burial

In an earthly Summerland I walked soon after you'd gone
hearing your steps just a few seconds to the side of time
As the leaves covered the sand I thought of the time you covered
not as vast as a forest but as rooted as any tree

I can see the lake touching the soil
with your laughter echoing in that elemental embrace
and I know I have found the place to lay rest your soul

So with your name written on paper
I give back to the woods what is theirs
and I leave payment to the elements
in a shiny star designed in coppers

Reel

Reel

There's more inside then entangled lines of celluloid
more memories than moments marked on screen
yet the reel takes up so much real
and I loose myself in perfected illusion
living in replaying some one else's story

So simple
to allow direction to consume
artificial lighting swallows the sun
and another tale becomes my path
stagnant motion between couch and glass
my day not governed by the hand of God
but by the taped vision of another mortal

My days become scenes
afternoons, matinees
evenings, bargain nights

I produce absence
my control I've left remote
as I wait for the lights to come up
and existence to wrap

A Make Believe Life

A Make Believe Life

I dream away the fairy tales life says we are to lead
I loose the time allotted me in intricate imaginings
My thoughts created are worlds more filled with life than the one I pull oxygen from

Ideas for expansion so easily set aside
Creations for downsizing so readily ignored
Ways to accomplishment simply not taken

Turning inside to the perfect touches within the perfect moments
I succeed at everything by doing nothing and the earth turns the years

I sit alone in my childhood's prison as both inmate and warden
Existing inside a make believe life
I keep my little globes orbiting in fantasy
as my hands tick away at mortality
in the clock of my skin
