Choking On Baby Food

Choking On Baby Food

Floating
the start of my existence
sleeping
seventy percent of my beginning

Hitting the air
still buoying

Wasn’t I supposed to be awake for this
rose petals and hand guns
all the textures and noise

Juggling and magic and bovine fecal matter
start to simmer my sentience
reason and choices and responsibility
become cards n my deck for the first time

Still
the damage has been done
lack of use has petrified my joy

Indoctrination

Indoctrination

Walking by a church
Catholic
not the one I attended as a child
Statues
columns
stained glass
pageantry
ceremony within
call to me
Not Jesus
older
more the gods I studied
when I was young
not the one I believed in
when I was young
Not even them
they’re all Greek to me
I feel
belief
pulling me
every bit of flesh
deep in the center of me
Only my mind
keeps me from dancing
around fires
with those old
almost forgotten
deities

Cuffed To A Creep

Cuffed To A Creep

He slips the handcuffs off
as if they were made of silk and time
instead of steel
his eyes
wild and sparkling
skin wet and tingling
he gasps the air in desperately
and I think
‘damn magicians’
